About Bandana Gauge
This site is a measuring aid for a square bandana folded once into a triangle and tied around a dog's neck. It is not a shop, not a pattern service, and not veterinary advice.
How is the square chosen?
Enter the neck where a flat collar sits. The chart adds about 8 inches on the long edge for the knot, then picks the smallest square whose diagonal covers that length. The five squares on this site are 15, 18, 22, 26, 30 inches on a side.
The long edge is the side of the square times the square root of two. That is the edge that wraps the neck after the fold. A larger square is not safer; the extra point hangs, and the extra fabric has to be knotted into a lump.
“Measure around the neck… You should be able to fit two fingers between the measuring tape and your dog.”
Where do breed notes come from?
Breed pages use maintained adult neck ranges from this project's data files. They show how wide a typical range can be so you can see why one Golden Retriever is not the next. The calculator still reads the tape on the dog in front of you.
Fit notes call out common misses for that build: measuring over a coat, tying on the throat, or cutting from weight instead of circumference. They do not replace measuring.
Who runs this?
Bandana Gauge is a small static site. The size chart, breed ranges, and page copy live in this repository and compile into HTML. Model settings on the settings page stay in your browser; they are only used on your machine when you generate pending copy locally.
