Dog bandana size chart: 15–30 in squares
Dog bandana size chart for cutting a tied square: 15, 18, 22, 26, 30 inches on a side. Add 8 inches to the neck, then pick the smallest square.

| Size | Square | Long edge | Neck up to |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 15 in / 38.1 cm | 21.2 in | 13.2 in |
| S | 18 in / 45.7 cm | 25.5 in | 17.5 in |
| M | 22 in / 55.9 cm | 31.1 in | 23.1 in |

How do I measure for the chart?
- Stand the dog square. Use a soft tape where a flat collar sits, on the skin, not over the coat.
- Snug the tape, then leave room for two fingers. That reading is the neck.
- Add about 8 inches on the long edge for the knot. Pick the smallest square that covers it.
- Fold corner to corner. The point rests on the chest, and the knot sits at the side or the back.
How is this chart cut?
This chart is for a square bandana folded once into a triangle and tied around the neck. The long edge is the side of the square multiplied by the square root of 2. Plan on about 8 extra inches past the neck so the corners can knot without choking.
Extra small is a 15 in square, long edge 21.2 in, for necks up to about 13.2 in; Small is an 18 in square, long edge 25.5 in, for necks up to about 17.5 in; Medium is a 22 in square, long edge 31.1 in, for necks up to about 23.1 in; Large is a 26 in square, long edge 36.8 in, for necks up to about 28.8 in; Extra large is a 30 in square, long edge 42.4 in, for necks up to about 34.4 in.
Pick the smallest square whose long edge covers the neck plus that tie allowance. A bigger square is not safer. The extra point hangs in the bowl, and the extra tie has to be knotted into a lump. If the neck is past the extra-large long edge, cut a custom square instead of guessing from a label that only says large.
Breed pages on this site give a typical adult range so you can see how wide that range is. The chart still reads a measurement, not a breed name. Measure the dog you are sewing for.
Measure where a flat collar sits and leave room for two fingers, as in common dog-apparel measuring guidance from theAmerican Kennel Club. Then use this site'ssquare chartrather than a clothing size label.
